Grown With Purpose
A structured, trainer-led program that builds the foundation your adult dog never got.
Grown With Purpose
Most adult dog problems are not about stubbornness or bad behavior. They happen because the dog never received a real foundation. No one taught them how to focus on their handler, control their impulses, move calmly on leash, or settle when the world gets exciting. Without that foundation, nothing else sticks.
Grown With Purpose is a structured, trainer-led program that installs the complete behavioral foundation for adult dogs 6 months and older. Whether you just adopted a rescue, have a dog that was casually raised without formal training, or are a first-time owner who needs a real starting point, this program builds the skills that make everything else possible.
This is not a puppy program repurposed for older dogs. Adult dogs come with established habits, practiced behaviors, and adult-level arousal. This program is designed for that reality.
Phase 1: Assessment and Foundation (Sessions 1–3)
Focus: Assessment, engagement, impulse control, and leash communication
We start by assessing your dog's readiness for training. From there, we install the learning system: marker conditioning, voluntary engagement with the handler, impulse control and the beginning of leash communication.
Outcome by end of Phase 1:
Marker system installed and understood
Voluntary engagement with handler
Basic impulse control
Follows handler direction changes
Begins station mat work
The Grown With Purpose System
A structured 4-week, 8-session progression that builds engagement, impulse control, leash foundations, and real-world confidence.
Phase 2: Confidence & Disengagement (Sessions 4–6)
Focus: Environmental confidence, disengagement from distractions, and structured walking foundations
We move locations and introduce your dog to new environments and real-world distractions. Your dog learns to stay engaged with you even when the world gets interesting and begin structured walking.
Outcome by end of Phase 2:
Engagement holds in new environments
Disengages from mild distractions and reconnects
Walks within a structured walking zone
Settles voluntarily on a station mat
Calm observation during environmental pauses
Phase 3: Integration (Sessions 7–8)
Focus: Distraction resilience, real-world walking, and graduation
We test everything in real-world conditions. Your dog practices structured walking near distractions, calm observation stops, and owner-led handling. The program concludes with a graduation walk.
Graduation Standard:
Engagement with handler in a distracting environment
Walks calmly in the reinforcement zone
Follows direction changes
Disengages from mild distractions and reconnects
Settles on a station mat in a public environment.
Owner demonstrates confident, independent handling
What Makes This Different from Puppy Training
Grown With Purpose is built on the same curriculum as Purposeful Puppy Foundations, but it is adapted for the unique challenges of training an adult dog:
Habit replacement, not installation. Your adult dog has been practicing pulling, jumping, counter surfing, and door dashing for months or years. We replace those patterns by making the new behavior more valuable than the old one. This requires higher reinforcement rates and more patience than training a puppy who has no habits yet.
Decompression protocol for rescues. Newly adopted dogs may not be ready for structured training. Session 1 includes a decompression assessment. If your dog needs more time to settle into your home before training begins, we provide a management and decompression plan and return when your dog is ready.
Adult arousal management. Adult dogs bring adult-level arousal to every situation. The jumping is harder, the pulling is stronger, and the patterns are more deeply practiced. This program accounts for that from Session 1.
Who This Program Is For
Grown With purpose is designed for adult dogs 6 months and older who need a real behavioral foundation.
This program is a good fit if your dog:
Was adopted as an adult and never received formal training.
Has been casually raised without structure
Jumps on everyone, pulls on leash and ignores commands outside the house.
Cannot settle or relax without constant management.
Is transitioning to a new home and needs a reset.
Is a working breed or adolescent or adult that has outgrown puppy class but never got foundations.
These are not signs of a bad dog. They are signs of a dog that never got the foundation it needed to make better choices.
Who This Program Isn’t For
This program is not appropriate for dogs showing:
Sustained fear, panic, trembling, or shutdown behaviors
Inability to take food in a calm environment after adequate decompression time.
Bite history with injury.
If your dog is showing these signs, we will recommend the appropriate program or referral during your consultation. Correct placement protects your dog and ensures real results.
Working Breed Owners
Many working breed owners come to us with an adult dog that has never had structured training. Maybe you rescued a 2-year-old Cattle Dog. Maybe your teenage German Shepherd outgrew puppy class and nobody told you what comes next. Maybe you bought a Malinois because they are beautiful and now you are living with a dog that is more intensity than you were prepared for.
This program builds the foundation your adult working breed never got as a puppy adapted for adult dogs with established habits and adult-level drive. These dogs do not need a firmer hand. They need a better plan.
What Happens After Graduation
Most Grown With Purpose graduates are ideal candidates for Walk With Purpose, where these foundations develop into reliable real-world walking behavior. Depending on your goals, your dog may also benefit from Skill Sessions in areas like Recall, Leave It, or Settle/Place.
We do not promise perfect behavior. We promise a dog with a working foundation and the behavioral skills that make daily life together dramatically easier.
